Extra Curricular Hebersham Public School caters to students individual needs by providing many extra curricular activities. Activities include: AASC (Active After School Communities) The Active After-school Communities (AASC) program is a national program that provides Australian primary school aged children with access to free, structured physical activity programs in the after school timeslot. The AASC is designed to engage traditionally inactive children in structured physical activities and build links with community based organisations to create opportunities for ongoing participation. For more information go to: http://catalogue.ausport.gov.au/aasc/index.asp Choir The Hebersham Public School Choir is offered to students from Years 2-6. The students show their talent at school assemblies and various community events. The Choir is co-ordinated by Miss Hughes and Miss Barnham. These teachers dedicate their time to help students learn songs, learn about singing and have fun. Hebersham is part of the combined choir that performs at the annual Mount Druitt Music Festival. Dance Gold Star Readers The Gold Star Reading is a program conducted by Carol Purdy, Hebersham's STLA (Support Teacher Learning Assistance). It supports students who require additional reading support. The program operates both in class and at home. Take Home Gold Star Readers Some students will borrow a Gold Star text from the Support Room. This book will be read at home and signed by the parent. The student attends ‘Reading Buddies’ in the Support Room at 8.30am the next morning and re-reads the text to a buddy. The buddy signs the booklist and the student exchanges the text to take home and the cycle continues. In Class Reading using the Gold Star texts Some students read to a peer in the classroom after morning lines. The peer signs the booklist each time the student reads. Each book should be read twice before exchanging. Texts should be read over 2 days and promptly returned. When the text has been read twice the student brings it to the Support Room to exchange it. If the room is locked, the student will place the text in the Gold Star Reading basket on the rail. The STLA will exchange the text and return it to the student as soon as possible.
